Atmos Energy Engineering Intern

May 2024-August 2024, January 2025-Present

Metairie, Louisiana

Atmos Energy is the largest natural gas-only distributor in the US. I interned at Atmos this past summer and it was such as positive experience that I returned to the company as a part time intern while I finished my degree. I assisted in designing and implementing replacement gas distribution systems. I designed using AutoDesk Utility Design. I attended meetings with state and local government officials and outside vendors. I prepared bid packages and keeping track of the project’s budget. I met with property owners to discuss potential easements to run gas mains through their property.

I also been worked on developing data sheets using compliance reports and system maps. For one project, I located oderizers and “sniff test points” for various systems throught out the eastern half of the state. The purpose of sniff points is to ensure that he natural gas smells through out the entire system so a leak can be detected. For this project, I used tableau to download the compliance reports from field techs. I also used ArcGIS to run network traces on the systems to match stations and test points to the correct system. Once all systems were mapped out with the oderizers, I gave advice on weather to move or add more testing points through out the system. I presented this information to my supervisor and creating a KMZ file so the points can all be seen in Google Earth.

During my first summer, I was able to observe engineers working in distribution but mostly focused on the transmission line. My biggest project was creating a digital record of the bends and offsets for the main natural gas transmission line in the area. This involved looking at maps, drawings and bill of materials. This data set was used to determine weather if the pipes could be inspected using a specific tool. I was able to shadow the implementation of an inline inspection pig. The inspection pig is a tool with different sensors that is pushed through the pipeline to find out where there may be damage to the pipe. I assisted the engineers with inspecting corroded pipes. I helped prepare materials for an upcoming inspection by the United States Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. Additionally I regularly attended pre-construction meetings and safety seminars.

Disney College Program - Attractions

January 2023-August 2023

Orlando, Florida

During my college program I was placed as an attraction Cast Member at  Rise of the Resistance which is one of the newest attractions on property. It is a 20 minute experience that includes a turntable, a trackless ride system, and a 25 foot drop. I delivered outstanding guest services by putting on amazing show while staying safe and efficient. I learned how to operate different consoles. I performed safety checks and gave safety spiels to guests. I performed opening and closing checklists. I initiated drops and turntables and visually ensured all vehicles were prepared for operation.

During my program I received my recognition. I earned an award for setting a record of 1,629 guests per hour. I received 10 “Cast Compliments” which is a way for guests to let management know that a cast member did an excellent job. I received 9 “5-Key’s Recognition” from my fellow cast members and coordinators, a few of which can be read below:

“You were incredible during my efficient sweep today. You put on an amazing show, and your times kept getting better and better after every sweep. The guests were having an absolute blast, and I was having a blast watching you make magic. Thank you for all your hard work.”
